Tuesday was my first official full work day in the studio. This year, I really want to focus on production capacity and creating an inspiring work space.
For years I had a really nice view out of this window, complete with a butterfly garden!
I'm going to add "flower garden" and "wash windows" to the studio beautification list.
I hate to admit it, but I really have been working in this space for the last quarter of 2011 with this giant mess surrounding me! That bright colored pile is the art area for the kids. Ask me how much art they've done there? Yeah, that's right. NONE.
Let's just add "art studio" to the office redesign (separate room, still counts).
Fellow bookbinders, do you save all these long scraps too? Maybe they will find their way into tags, or super small books. For now, they're in a box!
I like to think of this as my "Before" picture. Hopefully sometime in 2012, this space will be worthy of my Pinterest Board for inspiring studio spaces! I really feel very fortunate to have this space to use as a studio. This year I will figure out how to make it pretty and functional.
And finally, back to making books. I have a wholesale order of 25 small journals that needs to ship by this Friday. Surprisingly, these text blocks are coming together quite quickly.

ReplyDeleteLooks like a great space to be working in! I too look forward to seeing what you do with it. Maybe I'll be brave enough soon to show pics of my whole studio space. I save all scraps--colourful ones for thinking I'll make paper again soon, and other strips for small notepads, but I've decided now that anything less than 2" wide is too small for me to keep now.
ReplyDeleteI know where you are coming from with talking about your space. It seems every minute of free time that I do have I try to put it into producing books or paintings and seems my studio always get the raw end of the stick somehow...although I did clean it all up and put everything,,,yes, everything away over summer break,,,I should have taken fotos THEN...as the Xmas rush is just ending and now comes the Easter rush...yikes!! the santas are sitting with the bunnies and eggs....oh no....oh yes,,,I have a box with saved pieces too ..if I don´t use them up by end of 2012 they are out of here:)...yeah, right...your book lineup on the table looks fabulous!!
